Nortel Networks VoIP Platforms Win “Product of the Year” Awards from Internet Telephony

Nortel Networks 18th April 2003

Nortel Networks BayStack 460 Power over Ethernet Switch and Business Communications Manager (BCM) 2.5 have won prestigious 2002 "Product of the Year" awards from Internet Telephony, a Technology Marketing Corporation magazine

The awards are further recognition of Nortel Networks leadership position in voice over IP (VoIP), and of the significance power over Ethernet technology is expected to play in VoIP networks. The Nortel Networks VoIP product portfolio positions businesses to implement converged networks, providing high-performance information infrastructures designed to lower total cost of network ownership.
Nortel Networks BayStack 460 and BCM 2.5 were selected for "demonstrating true innovation, the hallmark of Internet Telephony Product of the Year award winners," according to Greg Galitzine, editorial director, Internet Telephony. "The Product of the Year awards are meant not only to honor the outstanding teams who developed and manufactured the products on our winning list, but also to educate our readers on the vast array of offerings in this market," Galitzine said. "Choosing the winners was a difficult process, and the editorial team spent many hours studying the applications we received from vendors, as well as looking through materials we collected on our own over the past year."

BayStack 460-24T-PWR power over Ethernet Switch provides power to IP (Internet Protocol) phones, wireless access points, Net cameras and other devices, while maintaining 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connectivity with the convenience of using a single cable for power and VoIP traffic. Equipped with robust, industry-proven Quality of Service (QoS) functionality intended to eliminate latency in VoIP traffic, BayStack 460 is a resilient, secure, stackable switch that automatically recognizes device connection and provides power.

Nortel Business Communications Manager Wins "Best-In-Test" Nortel's Business Communications Manager 3.0 was selected as "Best-in-Test" in the under-1000 IP-PBX category by Miercom, an independent network consultancy and product test center. The report states, "The Nortel BCM handily took the BCR (Business Communications Review) Best-in-Test. Best-in-Test winners generally bat for average rather than hitting home runs, but the Nortel BCM did both: It showed consistently well in all categories, and received the highest ratings given in the Basic Features and Performance categories."
